For those of you who don’t know, I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Hidradenitis SuppurativaHidradenitis Suppurativa, commonly known as HS, an incurable skin disease marked by swollen, painful, inflamed lesions in areas that contain sweat glands. These areas include the groin, underarms, neck, chest, and back of the knee but the disease can occur in other places as well. The disease is NOT contagious but it is recurrent, meaning that it never fully goes away and the lesions come and go. It usually begins as a single, boil-like, pus-filled abscess and progresses overtime to painful, chronically inflamed clusters of lesions involving significant dark scarring.

I’ve had this disease since I was around 14 years old but I didn’t learn what it was until I was about 22 years old. I thought I had some sort of cancer because the bumps were sometimes hard like you would expect a tumor to be. Let me tell you that it is NOT cancer nor is it Herpes, acne, cysts, boils or folliculitis.

At the moment, there is NO CURE for HS. I am trying to promote awareness of this disease in hopes that we can get more funding and find a cure. If you would like to help spread awareness, check out my hub about Hidradenitis Suppurativa. You can also donate to HS-USA, a 501c3 charity for HS.

  1. That sounds a lot like what my mother has been complaining of. She was also concerned that it could be a tumor. I am going to share this info with her!
