So if you remember a few days ago, I wrote a post about how we felt like we were doing Konmari wrong. After talking about it with others and by ourselves, we decided that we were doing Konmari wrong and we needed to change some things. We decided that essentially we’re doing a pre-KM decluttering that will help us complete the Konmari method better.
We ordered a physical copy of the book from a seller on Amazon so we could read the book instead of listening. I think that will help the process really sink in. We scored a used copy for $6.19 plus shipping and I happened to have a $10 Amazon gift card so we only paid 18 cents out-of-pocket! It should arrive in a few days. In the meantime, we’re going to finish out the list we printed out (excluding sentimental items) and then we’re going to do some spring cleaning.
You know what I mean – washing windows, deep cleaning the carpets, cleaning the refrigerator coils – all those yearly cleaning projects that you put off so long that you wish you could just buy new versions of the stuff you’re cleaning instead. Then when the book arrives, we’ll read it and start again the Konmari way. We will begin by trying to figure out what we hope to accomplish by tidying – a writing exercise that Ms. Kondo suggests in the beginning of the book.
Then, we will begin with clothing. We will move on to books and papers and then tackle Komono again. When that is complete, we will work on sentimental items and hopefully that will be the end of our Konmari journey.
I’m also working on a Konmari printable checklist that you can use while working on each category. I hope to have that ready by tomorrow.
